In the military, your unit of measurement patch was worn on your left sleave 1 " down from the shoulder seam...if you were in a combat zone, the unit patch was placed on the right sleave 1" downwards from the shoulder seam (not withstanding specialty tabs).
If I were to require an American flag...it would be on the left sleave...
All-time bet is cheque with your abode organization...or if yous belong to a stand lonely dojo, check with your sensei...

The people you train with KNOW you are from America...
The people who encounter you at demos KNOW y'all are from America...
I am pleased to meet the pro-American element come up out during our current conflict...but the arts yous do become beyond borders.
If one person in the dojo is going to habiliment an American flag, then ALL students should...and, again, that is upward to your sensei (or sifu, as the case may be).

I'one thousand sorry for posting as frequently as I do on this point, but, it seems that an American flag would exist appropriate IF yous represented the USA...as in a United states of america team fellow member (whether it exist boxing, wrestling, kempo....whatsoever) or possibly if yous were competing in an international tournament. I applaud anyone's willingness to support the skilful ol' USA...but, unless yous are on a team that represents us, why would you wear an American flag on your gi?chufeng
Practice you lot have the Usa flag hanging in your schoolhouse?

I practise wearable the flag on my left sleeve, about one/4 inch from the shoulder seam (which lands halfway to the elbow since I have girl shoulders).
I have flags on my car, in my window, and I don't really care if anyone thinks I should habiliment it on my gi or non. You are welcome to try to remove it, if you like.

Wouldn't dream of it...
I applaud anyone'due south brandish of patriotism (spent 22 years on agile duty and iv in reserve)...I just don't brandish it on my martial arts compatible.
Why???
I recall what nosotros practise as martial artists actually rises above that...
I support everything we are doing in Iraq...I defend the shiteheads right to protestation (even though I'd like to slap them)...
I've put my money on the line for most of you (not withstanding those who accept already served their time in the military)...
And, no, I don't have an American flag in my "school" because we railroad train exterior...in the park...at the elementary school covered area...in my driveway...or wherever we find ourselves...do I have an American flag in my home? Aye...the ane that covered my grandfather'southward casket (a WWI vet) and a simple small flag that we display within our home.

We had the American and S Korean flags displayed in the studio too, and we bowed to each of them when we bowed to the instructor at the beginning and stop of each class.
Now that I call back nigh it, it does seem a little flake foreign. But I suppose it doesn't really matter. There's nothing incorrect with showing patriotism or respect for a state in the practicing of your art.

Its funny because in Britain I NEVER encounter the British Flag hung in a identify of grooming Well-nigh Gi's or Dobuk'due south only have the Association tag on the front left breast and Maybe another larger symbol on the dorsum. The only people I know who have British flags ANYWHERE on their Dobuk'south are the British Olympic or International Team. In my schoolhouse certainly nosotros only have the Korean Flag hanging (For the Hapkido class). I've never actually understood why you guys hang your Flag EVERYWHERE........is it incase y'all forget your American? Nah I'm playin.......nonetheless it is kinda an American matter

Likewise I study an American art, more or less. Kenpo has roots in Okinawa, just developed largely in the US.
The flag display was present in my house since childhood, as my father was army. We put up the flag every morning time, and it came downward at sunset.
Afterwards 9/eleven, a lot of people that did not accept the flag displayed, began to display information technology. On cars, trucks, motorcycles. A sign of disobedience, perchance.
